Sherri Mooney

Ms. Sherri Mooney is the current Principal at Anthony Carnevale Elementary School. She has her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary & Special Education from Rhode Island College and a Master’s Degree in School Counseling from Providence College. She has been in education for over 25 years. Prior to becoming Principal at Carnevale, Ms. Mooney served at West Broadway Middle from 2015-2024, first as a lead guidance counselor and then as Assistant Principal. Throughout that time, she was a part of the MTSS, ILT and SIT teams, while coordinating the Attendance Team and SEL education. She started her education career in 1999 as a long-term substitute in Special Education at Young Woods Elementary School. She was then hired full-time at Delsesto Middle as a Special Education Self-Contained teacher. She remained there for 13 years, serving as the Special Education Teacher Leader, Coordinator of the MTSS team, and PBIS team.
“During my time at Delsesto, I worked alongside some of the most amazing educators, which most of you can find today, leading this district in many different capacities. What was very special to me working at Delsesto was that my Dad grew up a street over on Eliza St. He and my uncle both attended Providence Schools. My grandfather was a Providence Firefighter, and my grandmother worked in the kitchen at Central High School for many years. That neighborhood felt like home to me. During my first few years there, I knew Providence was where I would invest my heart and soul.”
“In 2012, I moved to Carl J. Lauro as a Behavior Intervention Teacher. There I had the opportunity to work under Kym Irons (Behavior Coach) and Sue Hartson (Special Education Supervisor). During this time, I was fortunate enough to have these amazing women as mentors. It was undeniable that I knew I loved working with our kids in Providence, however, during this time of my career is when I learned how to understand them better. "I learned that behaviors are a deflection of something more, and it is our job to find out what that something is and support however possible.”
My mission has and always will be.....
  • To empower students to develop skills to collaborate, communicate, evaluate, think critically, cope and regulate emotions
  • To empower students to develop behaviors of integrity, respect, grit, perseverance, and goal setting
  • To empower students to develop (a) mindset of growth, self-confidence and self-efficacy.
